I say ';most'; because this probably doesn't apply to deism.
But it seems to me that, in the case of Christianity for example, it's simply: ';The universe was made with us in mind. We are too important to die like the other animals, and my day to day life is so fascinating to the omnipotent creator of the universe that he wants me to give him daily updates through telepathy';.Isn't it true, when you come right down to it, that theism in most of it's forms is just extreme egotism?
I'd say that's pretty accurate. How can anything be more egotistical than the belief that the entire universe was created for our benefit?
Many religious objections to evolution seem to be based on distaste for the thought that humans are just another species of animal, not the result of special creation.
Then there's the belief that the world is about to end, which has been pretty much constant through history. It seems that people can't conceive of the world continuing on without them, so they convince themselves that the world was destined to end during their lifetimes.Isn't it true, when you come right down to it, that theism in most of it's forms is just extreme egotism?
not the universe, just the earth
and its not that we are so fascinating, its because we are so loved
to be egotistic implies we are fascinated with ourselves. however, the concept of christianity is the fascination with God. so no, its not an extreme form of egotism.
Most yes, just like everything else in this world, which joins them to their judgments of others.
Not judging them here, just making an observation.
Just remember that people are like water they seek their own level, intellectually, financially, spiritually and by any number of other ways we use as excuses to judge one another.
Everyone has to start somewhere spiritually, it's where you take yourself from there that counts.

Individuals are selfish creatures, for good or bad. Theism is simply one expression of our ideas about this world, along with many other ideas. I don't think it is particularly more selfish than other belief systems; I might even say that it is less selfish because it puts a definite being (God) above all and emphasizes worship.
You are severely misinformed.
1) The universe was made with us in mind. If you found out you were having a baby wouldn't you want to baby-proof your home? Move somewhere cleaner or safer? Why is that hard to believe?
2) Too important to die like other animals? God loves each and every creature on the planet, but animals do not sin like us. They have no sense of right and wrong, just animal instincts. Jesus died for our sins so we could live a life for God! So why does that make it important for us not to die? Simply because God gave his son for us.
3) Is it wrong for us to talk to God? Absolutely not! It strengthens our bond. You're problem is that you think of God as a human, which he is not so that makes telepathy out of the question. God wants us to talk to him, ask for his help, pray for others. There is nothing wrong with that.
So to answer your question, I would say no.
If that is your preferred form of theism then I would say yes. I personally believe the universe is co-opting for the larger goal. The brotherhood of man. That is my theology. I certainly didn't invent it its been around for a long time and most major religions do not contend with it.
That's the most pathetic attempt.
Im not even slightly swayed.
';We are too important to die like the other animals';
Umm all animals and people die. All animals and people rise again thru resurrection. All.
And why is it so hard to believe that this WORLD, our home, was made with us in mind....since its the only one that can support human life??? That's an awfully big coincidence, although I realize that's an atheists faith...coincidence.
Great exposition, but...
You forgot how exclusive religion can be:
';MY religion is right because I said so and MY book says so. All other religions and whatever books they have are wrong. If you don't believe that I am right then after you die you are going to experience incredible unequivocal pain for eternity while I live forever in perfect happiness.';
In the case of Christianity, the ego is decimated before conversion. That's getting right down to it.
Your theory is nothing less than Christian-bashing. Moreover, you have not studied the Bible properly.
God made us in his image and that is a blessing i think that maybe animals will go to heavan because it is a happy place.
he did make life for us and nobady thanks him enough for it, its really sad usally
What ever you want to believe is fine by me.... If you can lay your head on your pillow at night and sleep the sleep of peace.... go for it...... To answer your question : No, that is a false statement.... go in peace... God bless
No it isn't true. If you don't believe why does it bother you that I do. I am causing you no harm so just go away and enjoy your life.
It's the pinnacle of egotism to think that some all-powerful deity gives a crap about their stupid lives.
You think you've somehow simplified all of Christianity with that tripe? Wow, talk about egotistical!
Extreme egotism?
How about trying to define someones faith for them.
Only an atheist would feel self-important enough to think like that.
You know, my wife loves me. Is that extreme egotism? If not, then it is no less egotism that God loves us.
And they're always claiming that atheists are arrogant.
A sonic banana?
While atheists with blind minds have nothing better to do in life than rant at the religious?
I agree with you, everyone wants to feel special.
No.
x
Yeah, everyone that doesn't believe what you do goes to Hell. I bet a lot of Christians feel happy about that too,
To me what important is how an ideology builds sustainable world peace.
Research yourself the written records of the world. It was the Christianity that started to pervasively spread the Gospel (Good News) and ideology of Agape Love and World Peace (On earth peace through goodwill in people, Luke 2:14), followed by the high quantity and quality of Agape examples by Jesus and His prophets and apostles. The world adopts/borrows Jesus Agape value as long as Christianity has sufficient influence over the world. In many third world countries, Shalom skyrockets as more and more people follow Jesus. Is the US borrowing money from “third” world countries? Unfortunately the world will go back to its chaotic natures when Christianity influence diminishes or is removed. Can you imagine the world runs amok after the Rapture (Jesus brings living Christians to Heaven)?
Reformation is the coming back of Jesus people to His teachings in the Bible. Reformations are followed by increased Shaloms.
What are you thankful for that the “world” has given? Modern medicine, the Father of Genetics Christian Monk Gregor Mendel, Jospeh Lister, hospitals, the Red Cross’es from where the Red Crescent’s ensue, mother Teresa’s, modern democracy, YMCA’s, YWCA’s, Salvation Armies, not living as slaves, justice, reverend Harvard universities, and goodwill among people? They are the gifts of Christian world, through the Followers of Christ whom Jesus indwells and lives through.
